Columbia Shipmanagement has placed an order with ChartCo Ltd to provide ChartManager services for its complete fleet of 140 vessels, confirming ChartCo’s position as the market leader in the provision of data services to the maritime industry.
As part of this agreement ChartCo will be providing data services to all vessels under the full technical management of Columbia Shipmanagement (CSM), one of the world’s largest ship management companies. The services provided will include ChartManager, an update service for digital Notices to Mariners and chart corrections. Delivery of the data will be via ChartCo’s unique broadcast service and ChartCo Select, an internet and email based delivery service. The software provided as part of the solution allows vessels to manage their own corrections without recourse to shore-based providers. The service includes a full catalogue of products, which is also updated weekly allowing the vessel to manage and update their onboard outfit. These services are backed up with full implementation, installation and support services.
Chris Wilson is the ChartCo Sales Manager who negotiated the CSM order. He says: "ChartCo is an excellent fit for the diverse requirements of a large fleet, such as CSM’s, as services can be delivered in different ways according to the communications equipment available on-board each vessel. CSM chose to implement ChartManager, which provides automatic reception of the weekly Notice to Mariners and chart corrections issued by the UK Hydrographic Office, as it enhances vessel safety. Most CSM vessels will also take advantage of ChartCo’s Broadcast Service, which allows them instant access to large volumes of weekly chart correction data at no additional charge."
"The fixed budgetary cost of ChartCo Broadcast, which includes both subscription charges and service delivery to the vessel, was considered a major benefit by CSM. In the future they may also take advantage of ChartCo’s wide range of additional services, including weather forecasting, Electronic Chart updates, Anti-virus updates and Digital Regulations database services. These all provide added value to the existing services without incurring any separate Inmarsat airtime cost."
Leonid Zalenski, Marine Manager at Columbia Shipmanagement in Cyprus said: "CSM has always provided its clients with the highest quality professional management services. We see effective management of chart corrections as a major enhancement to vessel safety and as a result it is very high on our agenda. ChartCo provide us with the reliable and timely delivery of correction data meaning that our vessels are always able to maintain chart integrity. ChartCo software also provides a full audit trail of corrections meeting the requirements of port state control and other inspecting authorities. Furthermore all weekly correction data is delivered to the vessels for an all inclusive price, so there are no airtime costs to worry about."
ChartCo is providing a full turnkey installation ensuring that the ChartCo service is installed as vessels are made available. Implementation has already commenced and will continue over the coming weeks.
ChartCo remains the leading provider of safety related data services, with over 4000 vessels currently installed world-wide.
