The global supplier of charts, navigational data and marine technical publications, gets involved with the bi-annual competition for the third time.
ChartCo, the world’s largest stockist and distributor of charts, navigational data and marine technical publications, can announce its involvement in this year’s legendary Clipper 13-14 Round the World Race, which begins in September.
The Clipper Race is one-of-a-kind, giving amateur sailing enthusiasts the chance to crew one of the 12, 70ft racing yachts built for the purpose and each sponsored by a different city. The organisers describe it as the event “…where taxi drivers rub shoulders with chief executives, vicars mix with housewives, students work alongside bankers, nurses work with vets and doctors team with rugby players.”
40,000 miles of ocean stand between the competitors and the final finish line, and amateur or expert, the sea makes no exceptions: it’s a tough race. ChartCo originally got involved with the Clipper Race because of its spirit of teamwork and respect; two values the company has held throughout its 250-year history.
As well as sponsoring the event, ChartCo are the sole supplier of the navigational data that will keep the crews and support vessels safe on their journey. This comprises of ADMIRALTY Vector Chart Service (AVCS), ADMIRALTY Raster Chart Service (ARCS), ADMIRALTY Digital Publications (ADP) and ADMIRALTY Paper Charts, as well as other supporting nautical information.
Martin Taylor, Managing Director of ChartCo, said:
“It is a pleasure to once again be involved with this prestigious event; this year we are pleased to be supporting the Clipper Round the World Race through sponsorship and the supply of digital and paper navigational information and data and nautical charts needed for such an adventure.”
The highly accurate data that will guide these amateur teams through some tough conditions is what ChartCo is known for. As the world’s largest supplier of navigational data, the company has much experience with professional vessels like the third generation Clipper 70 ocean racing yacht that sees its debut this year.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Founder and Chairman of the Clipper Race, commented:
“I’m extremely pleased to announce ChartCo as our Official Supplier for the third consecutive time. The company is a globally-respected supplier of this kind of navigational data, which our crews will be relying on during the 11 months they’ll be competing.”
The race commences at St Katharine Docks, London on the 1st of September and is estimated to finish there in July after 11 months of individual races.
